Most of the Time...
Most of the time, we ignore what we know is right, just to do as we please. We hurt people, friends, family, lovers, and even strangers, because we have the selfishness to do what we want, when we want, completely disregarding the consequences. Like brutal thieves, we steal away happiness and peace from others, if it means we will be able to feel bliss, if only for a moment. Most of the time, we look at the world with eyes clouded with stereotypes, judgements, and opinions. They always told you opinions were good, they never said that they could hurt people. We use these judgments to blame our world, blame our society, blame God, or whoever happens to be up there, watching their domain crumble. We blame others for our faults, and think nothing of it. Most of the time, we find a way out of our trouble, either by putting it off on other people, or by running away. We run from anything that threatens us, house mice in a frenzy because our hidey hole was discovered. Most of the time, we cry. We cry because we were hurt, we cry because we lost something, or someone, we cry because maybe someone will stop by along our lonely road, smile, and offer a hand. We cry for the hell of crying, even though deep down inside, we know it does no good. Most of the time, we make mistakes, but we refuse to acknowledge them. Most of the time, Pride comes before reason. Most of the time, emotions come in the way of our judgment. Most of the time, thoughts are far away, and we act on our own self-absorbed whims. Most of the time, we make this world Hell. But, hey, that's most of the time.
Earth-By Alex Owens
I crave the power and the wealth
Of Nature’s warmth.
To hold it in my cupped hands,
Watching it--slip--
Between my Fingers.
Like cool silk--
On a summer’s day.
To want creating and knowledge,
And know that--within these--
I am Safe.
I want to sing my songs underneath the stars--
And listen with un-clouded eyes..
To the earth.
